Genetics of Early Neurological Instability after Ischemic Stroke
Genetics play a significant role in determining the early outcomes experienced by patients suffering from acute ischemic stroke (AIS). This research is aimed at understanding why adults who suffer an acute stroke have variable recovery following the injury to their brain. In addition to already known factors (such as age, severity of stroke, and blood pressure) that play a role, the study will identify genetic factors that may explain why some patients improve, or fail to improve, shortly after having a stroke by performing genome-wide association studies examining early neurological change after AIS.
